This is a wonderful micro-lot from our friend Luis Alberto Balladarez in Nicaragua. La Esperanza is one of Luis’ first farms and sits at 1500 meters above sea level. While La Esperanza means “hope” in Spanish, it is also named after Luis’ wife. This farm is lush and vibrant and has a perfect climate for growing coffee.
Though La Esperanza has several varieties of coffee grown on it, this coffee is the Caturra variety. It is well known in Central America for its high quality potential and thrives in Nicaragua. Compared to many other varieties, Caturra is a small plant. The size allows farmers to plant them closer together while yielding a greater harvest. This Caturra from Luis is fully washed and then slowly dried on raised beds.
