Carabello Coffee

Nicaragua Bella Aurora Honey

**All local pick up orders will remain available for 30 days.  After 30 days they will be donated to a local charity due to storage space.**

Carabello Coffee and the Lovo family have shared a direct relationship for many years now.  We began using their coffee in our Tandem Espresso in 2016.  We continue to use their coffee in our espresso but also source other micro-lots including the Bella Aurora!  If you thought this name sounded familiar, you’re not wrong!

This season we actually received two coffees from Bella Aurora – the washed process that we’ve already had and now the honey process.  Honey process coffees are different from washed coffees in that after being depulped, they are dried with the mucilage layer still intact with the seed.  This style of processing produces a cup that has more of a caramelized sweetness, stewed fruit acidity, and a slightly heavier body.

Luis Joaquin Lovo and his wife Marielo have an incredible passion for their home country of Nicaragua.  Though they immigrated to the United States during the civil war in Nicaragua in the 80’s, their heart was always to return.  And they did!

Upon returning, Luis picked up cultivating coffee on his family farm in hopes to help rebuild the community and the country.

In addition to coffee farming, Luis and Marielo started Fundenuse, a micro-loan program which is one of the largest in the country.  The program not only provides capital but also accountability for entrepreneurs and farmers.

In the Cup

This is a bright and cheerful coffee with strawberry, peach, chocolate, and mild floral notes.
