Manos Juntas (Hands Together) micro-mill was established around trying to create a more even sharing of the risks associated with coffee growing. As a group that sees and handles many of the more difficult aspects of growing coffee as a smallholder, Banexport decided to start this micro-mill with the intention of mitigating risk and maximizing rewards for producers who are growing coffee in the surrounding area of Sotará. When you grow a backyard's worth of coffee, the costs associated with processing your coffee to the highest degree are staggering. There's also the chance that during innovation you spoil a certain amount of the small amount of coffee you hope to get your livelihood from.
Manos Juntas offers producers a much higher premium for ripe cherries than producers normally get, even from a finished coffee, and gives them cash in hand the day they deliver their ripe cherries. This allows producers to put all of their effort into growing the healthiest cherry they can, and allowing Manos Juntas to take the other 50% of risk related to processing the coffees, and do this with the industry's finest technology.
This is a blend of 8 neighboring producers in Sotará, whose coffee was anaerobically natural processed over the course of a 30-45 day process. This results in magnificent complexity and ripe fruit flavor. This is a very unique coffee for the Cauca region.
