Carabello Coffee
Finca El Puente Batian (Moises & Marysabel)
This lovely coffee is coming to you from our new friends in Honduras, Moises and Marysabel Caballero. Our chance meeting earlier this year was the start of a wonderful relationship that we are beyond thrilled to grow over the years. This powerhouse couple of the coffee industry has a grand total of 35 distinct coffee farms and has a family operated coffee mill. Their first farm as a married couple was named Finca El Puente and this name is now synonymous with all their farms as a conglomerate.
The Batian variety is one that we don’t often see as an isolated lot, which makes this a unique opportunity to get to know this variety. Created at the Coffee Research Institute in Ruiru, Kenya, the Batian variety was released in Kenya in 2010. Batian is a tall and resilient variety that is quite resistant to coffee leaf rust and coffee berry disease. Kenyan farmers have introduced it into their crops cautiously and don't often isolate Batian as a lot unto itself. Yet, coffee producers like Moises and Marysabel whose bread and butter lies in varietal specific lots are able to take more of a chance on this newer variety. We are so thrilled not only to experience this Batian ourselves but also to have the opportunity to share it with you!
