The Chire washing station collects coffee from around 700 smallholder producers who are each growing a very small amount of coffee. They collectively grow coffee between 1950-2030 MASL, using the traditional assortment of Jimma Agricultural center varieties and the wildly growing landraces of the region. They reside in eastern Sidama, a region with a rich coffee growing history and high quality. Neighboring towns like Shantewene, Nansebo, or Bombe are all renowned for consistently producing some of the highest quality coffee we see from Ethiopia.
Chire takes painstaking effort to hand sort coffee and keep lots separate to produce an exceptional coffee. This is the grade 1 separation, free from visible defects and a whopping 91.5 cupping score.
Expect exquisitely clean washed Ethiopia at its best. Fresh jasmine, crisp acidity, a really refined sweetness, and a light mouthfeel like black tea.
