One of our most anticipated coffees of the year is finally here! El Regalo is back, and, for us, drinking this coffee is like catching up with an old friend. For some of you, just knowing El Regalo is back will have you adding this coffee to your cart immediately. But for those of you who have not had the pleasure of enjoying this coffee, let me explain.
For the past three years we have sourced this micro lot that is at the very heart of Finca Un Regalo de Dios in Mozonte, Nicaragua. It is grown by our friend Luis Alberto Balladarez and appropriately named "The Gift." The farm itself is a 45 minute trek up the mountain from the city of Ocotal, and tucked into a high mountain valley between 1400 - 1800 meters. Along the way the terrain changes from dry, arid, almost high mountain desert to lush deciduous forest with a good bit of evergreen sprinkled in. If you didn't know better, you would think you were in part of the Pacific Northwest.
El Regalo is a superb representation of the how good the red catuai varietal can be in Nicaragua when growing conditions, harvesting and processing practices are at their finest.
In the Cup
Expect notes of molasses, cherry and honey to combine with a buttery body to make for one luscious cup of coffee.
