Carabello Coffee
Grand Cru Volcan Acatenango Gesha
The story behind this coffee is shrouded in a bit of mystery. The importer we purchased this gesha from was quite discrete when it came to the specifics surrounding the coffee. The exact location and producer were not disclosed which left us to base our purchasing decisions almost solely on taste (which is quite lovely if we do say so ourselves)!
What we do know is that this gesha comes from a single estate nestled on the side of the Acatenango volcano, near the city of Antigua, Guatemala. The farm has been owned by a single family for several generations and has a wet milling facility on site.
The gesha varietal was brought to the Americas from Ethiopia and gained notoriety through Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama. Its distinctive floral and fruited notes make this varietal stand out in the cup. Additionally, geshas tend to “express” themselves based on the unique influence of the weather, soil, and altitude of the location in which they are grown.
In the Cup: Balanced, Sweet Orange, Floral, Turkish Delight, Cardamom, Vanilla, Green Apple, Delicate, Light Body
