Carabello Coffee
La Orquídea Pacas
Benjamin Paz is well known for putting the coffee of Santa Barbara on the specialty coffee map. Alongside his family, Benjamin runs the exporting company Beneficio San Vicente. With this platform he created a program that connects farmers in the area with roasters from around the globe. Those roasters commit to buying 100% of a farmer’s crop at a good price in hopes that the farmers will then have the ability to make improvements to their farms, their infrastructure, and their practices and form deep and meaningful relationships.
In addition to being an advocate for the coffee producers of Honduras, Benjamin also owns coffee farms of his own and is producing some truly exceptional coffee. Finca La Orquidea, where this coffee comes from, is located near the village of El Cedral in the department of Santa Barbara. Benjamin has acquired a breadth of knowledge about coffee production during his many years working at Beneficio San Vicente. So, when it came to coffee production, he applied it and immediately put it to use. Almost as soon as the coffee plants had matured, Benjamin's coffee placed in the Cup of Excellence competition. Now his coffees have won several years in a row.
Over the years, we have personally gotten to know him through Specialty Coffee Association events, catching up over dinners, and trips to visit him in Honduras. These trips have not only deepened our friendship with him but also given our baristas an opportunity to get a closer look into some of the amazing work he is doing on his farms and for the coffee community in Santa Barbara. He is incredibly genuine and approachable with a huge heart for coffee and people. We love our friendship with Benjamin and are so thankful for the opportunity to share his coffee.
