Carabello Coffee

Bolivia Aymara Illimani

$7

This coffee comes from the Illimani community situated at the base of Mount Illimani. With its soaring heights, Mount Illimani has peaks reaching 6,462 meters, some of the highest of the Bolivian Andes. Named by the Aymara peoples, Illimani means “where the sun rises.”

The climate of this region is unique with extreme temperatures ranging from below freezing to  between 60 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit within a matter of hours. The rivers and lagoons in the region are fed by snowmelt from the towering mountains above. In addition to growing coffee, Bolivians grow a diverse range of crops including potato, quinoa, plantain, and yucca. This biodiversity combined with the Andean weather and terrain contributes to the distinct complexity of Bolivian coffees.

Finding a Bolivian coffee to purchase is like finding a gem! While neighboring Peru produced about 4 million bags of coffee in 2023, Bolivia only produced about 40 thousand. We are thrilled to be able to share this unique coffee with you and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
